Meanwhile, create your ABHABlood banks in India, explained
A quick primer on how blood banks work, why a unified finder matters, and how you can help.
What is a blood bank?
A blood bank is a licensed facility that collects, tests, stores and issues blood and blood components — red cells, plasma and platelets — to hospitals and patients who need a transfusion.
What is e-Raktkosh?
e-Raktkosh is India’s national blood-bank management system under the Ministry of Health. It connects licensed blood banks so that stock and availability information can be shared in one place.
Why a unified finder helps
Instead of calling banks one by one, a single search lets you check which nearby blood banks may hold the group you need — a real time-saver in an emergency.
Every donation counts
Blood cannot be manufactured — it comes only from voluntary donors. Healthy adults can usually donate a few times a year, helping keep hospital supplies ready for patients and emergencies.
Blood bank finder — frequently asked questions
Can I search blood banks now?
Not yet. The blood-bank finder is coming soon to ExaHealth. The search shown on this page is a preview so you can see how it will work. In the meantime you can create your ABHA and keep your health records ready.
Will it show live blood availability?
Our goal is to help you check blood-group availability at nearby blood banks by drawing on national sources such as e-Raktkosh. Availability shown will reflect the latest data those sources publish; always call the blood bank to confirm before travelling.
Which cities will be covered?
We are building coverage for all of India, rolled out in phases. Major metros and larger cities are expected first, with towns and smaller districts added as coverage expands.
Is it free to use?
Yes. Searching for a blood bank on ExaHealth will be free. Creating and using your ABHA is free as well under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.
