    Official ABDM explainer

What is an ABHA card and ABHA number?

An ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) is your free, voluntary digital health ID under India’s Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). Creating one gives you two things: a unique 14-digit ABHA number that permanently identifies your health records, and an easy-to-remember ABHA address (like yourname@abdm) you use to log in and share records — similar to a UPI ID for your health.

The ABHA card is the QR card for that account. It’s issued by the National Health Authority (NHA), works at ABDM-participating hospitals, labs and pharmacies across India, and lets you link and carry your medical history wherever you go — with full consent control over who sees it.

Three ways to create your ABHA

Pick whatever you have on hand — all three give you the same ABHA number and card.

    ~2 min

    Aadhaar

Verify with an OTP on your Aadhaar-linked mobile. The fastest route — your name and details are filled in for you.

    ~3 min

    Mobile number

No Aadhaar handy? Start with just your mobile number and a one-time password, then add your details.

    ~5 min

    Driving licence

A self-declared ABHA using your driving licence, verified later at a participating facility.

How to create an ABHA — step by step

What can you do with an ABHA card? Uses & benefits

Once your ABHA number is created, it becomes the single thread that ties your health records together. Here’s what an ABHA card lets you do:

    • Link lab reports, prescriptions, discharge summaries and scans from any ABDM-connected hospital, lab or pharmacy.
    • Share your history with a doctor instantly — and revoke that access whenever you like.
    • Skip repeat paperwork and registration forms at hospitals that accept ABHA.
    • Carry a portable, government-backed health identity that works across India.
    • Keep your family’s records — parents, spouse and children — organised under one account.

How to use your ABHA card at a hospital

At an ABDM-participating facility, share your ABHA number or scan your ABHA QR at the registration desk. The hospital raises a consent request, you approve it on your phone, and your relevant records are shared securely — no photocopies, no re-entering details. After the visit, new reports can be linked straight back to your ABHA.

Why create your ABHA with ExaHealth?

Creating the card is just the start. ExaHealth turns your ABHA into a living health record — organised, private, and actually understandable.

    One home for every report

Lab tests, prescriptions, discharge summaries and scans from any hospital, pharmacy or lab — pulled together automatically.

    You control who sees what

Nothing is shared without your consent. Grant and revoke access to any doctor or hospital in a tap.

    Your whole family

Manage ABHA profiles for parents, spouse and children from a single login.

    Government-backed & portable

ABHA is issued under India’s Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) and works across the country.

Is the ABHA card the same as the Ayushman (PM-JAY) card?

No — they’re two different things that are easy to confuse. Your ABHA card is a free digital health ID that stores and connects your medical records for everyone. The Ayushman card (PM-JAY) is a health-insurance entitlement that gives eligible families up to ₹5 lakh a year of cashless hospital cover. You can have an ABHA without being eligible for PM-JAY — and your records stay consent-controlled either way (see how ExaHealth secures your data).

    New to ABHA?

The Ayushman Bharat Health Account is your free, voluntary, 14-digit health identity from the National Health Authority. You get an ABHA number, an easy address like yourname@abdm, and a QR card that works at ABDM-participating facilities across India. Creating one takes an Aadhaar OTP and a few minutes — your Aadhaar data is encrypted and never stored by ExaHealth.

ABHA card — frequently asked questions

Is creating an ABHA card free?

Yes. Creating an ABHA number and ABHA card is completely free under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. ExaHealth does not charge you to create or use it.

What is the difference between an ABHA number and an ABHA address?

The ABHA number is a unique 14-digit ID for your health records. The ABHA address (like yourname@abdm) is an easy-to-remember username you use to log in and share records — similar to an email or UPI ID.

Do I need an Aadhaar card to create an ABHA?

No. Aadhaar is the quickest option, but you can also create an ABHA using just your mobile number, or with a driving licence. You choose what works for you.

Is my health data safe with ABHA?

Your records are never shared without your explicit consent. ABHA follows ABDM’s consent framework, so you decide which doctor or hospital can view your data, and for how long — and you can revoke it any time.

Can I create ABHA for my parents and children?

Yes. With ExaHealth you can create and manage ABHA profiles for your whole family from one account, so every family member’s reports stay organised in one place.

What can I do after creating my ABHA?

Link your existing lab reports, prescriptions and hospital records, share them securely with any doctor, and let ExaHealth turn those numbers into plain-English insights about your health.

What is the use of an ABHA card?

An ABHA card lets you link and carry all your health records digitally, share them with any doctor or hospital with your consent, skip repeat registration paperwork at ABDM-connected facilities, and keep your whole family’s records in one place.

What are the benefits of an ABHA card?

It’s free, government-backed and portable across India. You get a single 14-digit health identity, consent-controlled sharing (you decide who sees what and for how long), no more carrying paper files, and a QR card accepted at participating hospitals, labs and pharmacies.

How do I use my ABHA card at a hospital?

At an ABDM-participating hospital, give your ABHA number or scan your ABHA QR code at registration. The hospital sends a consent request, you approve it on your phone, and your relevant records are shared securely — then new reports from the visit can be linked back to your ABHA.

Is the ABHA card and the Ayushman (PM-JAY) card the same?

No. The ABHA card is a free digital health ID that stores and connects your medical records for everyone. The Ayushman (PM-JAY) card is a health-insurance entitlement giving eligible families up to ₹5 lakh a year of cashless hospital cover. They are separate — you can have an ABHA without qualifying for PM-JAY.

How do I download my ABHA card?

Once your ABHA is created, you can download the ABHA card (PDF/QR) from the official ABHA app or website using your ABHA number or address and an OTP. Within ExaHealth, your ABHA stays linked to your account so your records are always connected.
